Working with Residents and Local Groups
We have been conducting lots of interviews and meetings with Newtown residents to get a sense of the town, what people think about life in Newtown and how they think the town has developed over the past 50 years.
This includes meeting with representatives of local organisations such as Newtown Town Council, Montgomeryshire Community Regeneration Association and Newtown Civic Society.
We have also designed projects to carry out with specific local groups or institutions, including working with Newtown Women's Institute, Newtown High School, NPTC and St. Mary's Primary School. For example, pupils from St. Mary's will be sending postcards to friends and family members around the world as a way of thinking about how Newtown is connected with other places.
However, we know our ideas and insights are incomplete and we are happy to meet with and interview anyone with an interest in the town and its future or who has information that might help us better understand the town’s connections to other places.
In particular, we are interested to speak with people:
- Who moved to Newtown during the past 50 years.
- Or who run a local businesses
- Or who have worked for some of the iconic Newtown employers e.g. Laura Ashley, Control Techniques.
- Or are involved in a community group with international links
